Biography

Francesca Cuomo received her "Laurea" degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1993, magna cum laude, from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy. She earned the Ph.D. degree in Information and Communications Engineering in 1998, also from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." Since 1996 she is an Assistant Professor at the INFOCOM Department of this University. She teaches at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" courses in Telecommunication Networks. Prof. Cuomo has advised numerous master students in computer science, and has been the advisor of 5 PhD students in Networking at Rome University "La Sapienza".

Her main research interests focus on: Wireless ad-hoc and Sensor networks, Cognitive radio networks, Reconfigurable radio systems, Quality of Service guarantees and real time service support in the Internet and in the radio access, Mobile and Personal Communications, Architectures and protocol for fixed an mobile wireless networks Modeling and Control of broadband networks, Signaling and Intelligent Networks. Francesca Cuomo has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers published in prominent international journals and conferences.

She participated in: I) the European ACTS INSIGNIA project dedicated to the definition of an Integrated IN and B-ISDN network; II) IST FP5 WHYLESS.COM project focusing on adoption of the Ultra Wide Band radio technology for the definition of an Open Mobile Access Network; III) RAMON project, funded by the Italian Public Education Ministry, focused on the definition of a reconfigurable access module for mobile computing applications; IV) the European IST FP6 ePerSpace Integrated Project focusing on the support of personalized audio/video services at home and everywhere; V) the FIRB project VIRTUAL IMMERSIVE COMMUNICATIONS (VICOM), funded by the Italian Public Education Ministry, where she has been responsible of the research activities on the Body Area Networks and Personal Area Networks; VI) the PRIN project TWELVE (ToWards Enhancing 802.11 support of differentiated service LeVEls) funded by the Italian Public Education Ministry and addressing service differentiation in complex and realistic IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs; VII) the European Network of Excellence FP6-CRUISE (CReating Ubiquitous Intelligent Sensing Environments) mainly dedicated to the study and the definition of the wireless sensor networks; VIII) FIRB Project INSYEME “Sistemi di telecomunicazione innovativi a larga banda anche con impiego di satelliti per utenze differenziate in materia di sicurezza, prevenzione e intervento in caso di catastrofi naturali”.

Prof. Cuomo has been from 2004 to 2008 in the editorial board of the Elsevier COMPUTER NETWORKS journal and she has served on technical program committees and as reviewer in several international conferences and journals including ACM Wireless Mobile Internet Workshop, ACM ModiHoc, IEEE INFOCOM, SECON, ICC, GLOBECOM, VTC, Med-Hoc-Net, WONS, WICON, IEEE Trans. on Wireless Communications, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks.
